Ektor Rivera is an American actor, singer and visual artist.
Born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, he earned his bachelor’s degree from the School of Plastic Arts & Design in Puerto Rico, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a concentration in Imaging and Digital Design.
A VISUAL VOICE FOR PUERTO RICAN PRIDE:
Rivera’s early career involved graphic design work for musical productions and other visual media. That led to his first exhibition, Persuasions (2007), which had him exploring almost imperceptible human emotions. His most recent exhibition, Puerto Rico in Mi (2019), was presented at the prestigious Museo de las Américas in Puerto Rico and received widespread praise from both media and the public. A recurring theme throughout Rivera’s work is Puerto Rican pride.
Rivera’s big artistic breakthrough occurred in 2023 when actor and playwright Lin- Manuel Miranda, along with his father Luis A. Miranda Jr. and producer Ender Vega, commissioned Rivera to create a painting honoring Rita Moreno. The piece, an impressive 8’x11’ oil and acrylic on canvas, is now part of the permanent collection of the Centro de Bellas Artes Luis A. Ferré in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
STAGE AND SCREEN:
Alongside his work as a visual artist, Rivera has built a successful career as a singer and actor in theater, film, and television. His notable stage performances include portraying Emilio Estefan in Broadway’s On Your Feet!, Juan Perón in Evita in London, and starring in In the Heights at the Coliseum of Puerto Rico, where he played to sold-out audiences.
On screen, Rivera earned acclaim for his portrayal of Daniel Santos in the film La Última Gira, which won him multiple awards, including Best Performance by a Leading Male and Best Musical Performance at the Skiptown Playhouse International Film Festival in Hollywood, California. Recently, he completed season two of The Chicken Sisters, a Hallmark series where he plays the role of “Sergio,” a series regular. The show features iconic actresses Lea Thompson and Wendie Malick.
